A harmful algal bloom started developing in the western basin of Lake Erie; the green tint is visible from outer space and has been captured on satellite imagery July 20. As of August 1st the algae bloom is approx. 466 sq km. in size, which is a decrease in area since July 27 as reported/monitored by the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS).
