BRITISH COLUMBIA

CACHE CREEK Village Water System – BWN issued February 16 due to an equipment failure at the Water Treatment Plant.

EDGEWATER Water system - WQA issued February 16 due to high turbidity levels. It is recommended children, elderly, those with weakened immune systems or anyone who wants additional protection to use boiled water or a safe alternative for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or when brushing teeth until further notice.

NEW WESTMINSTER – FLOODING February 14 due to a ruptured water main, 3 foot in diameter, that sent a torrent of water into the street causing road closures, evacuations and power outages. Floodwaters rushed into the lower floors of nearby apartment buildings, submerging parking garages and electrical rooms. Tenants wait without running water and electricity while crews pump out floodwaters and repair water main.

Metro Vancouver chief administrative officer says the pipes were built in the 1960s and are half way through their life cycle, engineers and water services teams will be conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of the failure .

The City informs residents that they may notice cloudiness or reduced pressure in their drinking water, but the water remains safe to consume.

SUMMERSIDE (Slemon Park) – February 5 Residents were notified that ‘Forever Chemicals' PFAS have been detected in the Community’s three wells, exceeding Health Canada's objective. Slemon Park is home to a business park and residential community created on and around the site of former Canadian Forces Base. Options that are being considered: adding filtering systems for PFAS to the existing wells, drilling three new wells at another location, and potentially connecting to the City of Summerside for water supply.

Rappel Important émis le 13 février – La MRC de Rivière-du-Loup rappelle aux propriétaires de puits privés qu’il est important de procéder à l’analyse préventive de leur eau afin de s’assurer qu’elle soit propre à la consommation.

Des échantillonnages d’eau et des analyses ont été effectués dans plusieurs municipalités de la région dans le cadre des projets d’acquisition de connaissances sur les eaux souterraines du Québec (PACES), ont notamment révélé qu’une concentration plus élevée de puits privés, qui contiennent de l’arsenic et du manganèse à des niveaux dépassant les normes en vigueur, se trouve sur les territoires des municipalités de Saint-Hubert-de-Rivière-du-Loup, de Cacouna, de Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs et de la ville de Rivière-du-Loup.

The MRC of Rivière-du-Loup reminds owners of private wells that it is important to carry out preventive analysis of their water to ensure that it is fit for consumption.

Water sampling and analyses was carried out in several municipalities in the region as part of the Quebec Groundwater Knowledge Acquisition Projects (PACES), revealing in particular that a higher concentration of private wells, which contain arsenic and manganese at levels exceeding current standards, were found in the territories of the Municipalities of Saint-Hubert-de-Rivière-du-Loup, Cacouna, Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs and the City of Rivière-du-Loup.
