Advisory of the Day
2020/8/20
TERRACE, BC: IT’S FISHING SEASON, DRINKING WATER IS NOW OK, BUT THIS WORLD CLASS RESORT IS EMPTY DUE TO THE PANDEMIC
Suzanne Forcese
In the northwestern part of British Columbia, where Canada is at its most beautiful, a Boil Water Advisory was issued to Skeena Salmon Lodge. Here a unique blend of Swiss and Canadian cultures merge on the banks of the salmon-rich Skeena River.
WATERTODAY spoke with Donna Penman at the Lodge who is only one of two people on staff now because of the pandemic. “We were issued a BWA on July 20, 2020. We shocked the well and the second sample came back OK. However, as a precautionary measure it is being left in place until some technicalities are verified regarding the distance between the septic tank and the well. But our water’s fine. There’s just no one here.”
A few years back Wild River Fly Fishing was founded by Marcel Schneider and Martin Jaeger, two Swiss Nationals who are the visionaries behind Skeena Lodge becoming the benchmark of fishing lodges not only in Canada but the World.
The Lodge boasts of a plethora of return guests for world-class salmon and steelhead fishing on the tributaries of the Skeena and Nass River systems, where they can experience wild river fly fishing. Guests can enjoy an exercise room, a customs games room, a spa and of course food created by well-travelled chefs.
Penman longs for the return of the guests. “I really miss them.”
This video shows how much the guests are likely missing the lodge too.
