ROUYN-NORANDA, QC: BWA DUE TO MAINTENANCE WORK
This story is brought to you in part by
A precautionary Boil Water Advisory (BWA) was issued on May 17 in the city of Rouyn-Noranda due to planned maintenance works in the city's sewer system.
The advisory was issued for residents and businesses located at Vanasse and Bureau Streets, 725 Barrette Avenue, 805 Lapointe Street and between 725 and 773 Laliberté Avenue.
The source of the advisory was planned maintenance work in the sewer system performed by city workers.
"The potable water line was obstructing access to the sewer pipe, we therefore had to cut the water supply," explained Francis Chouinard, director of the public works department of Rouyn-Noranda.
The maintenance work was described as minor by the public works department and budgeted at four thousand dollars.
Residents and businesses had their water cut from eight in the morning until seven in the afternoon. Once the service was established the Boil Water Advisory was issued as a precautionary measure. The advisory is expected to last at least 48 hours, until test results on water samples deem the water drinkable.
Residents are required to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least a minute before drinking it or use bottled water.
The city of Rouyn-Noranda will communicate residents when the advisory is lifted via a notice distributed door to door by municipal workers, its website and social media platforms.
