17/JAN/2023 – In the News: Brent Kennedy Elementary has relied on bottled water since Interior Health issued a do not drink order due to unsafe iron and manganese levels.
In the years since the order, efforts have been made to resolve this; alternative sources revealed the same issues of unsafe iron and manganese levels; new treatment plant has operational issues due to scale deposits of iron and manganese; the system is also challenged by unstable chlorine levels resulting from the systems non-use over weekends and holidays.
A spokesperson for Interior Health said there is no timeline for lifting the drinking ban, but superintendent Trish Smillie told the Nelson Star she believes the water quality will be approved in the near future.
