There are currently 38 short-term water advisories (down from 44 on 8/19/26) in First Nations communities across Canada and 40 long-term water advisories in 38 communities
FIRST NATION SHORT TERM ADVISORIES August 24, 2026
Overview: As per Indigenous Services Canada, there are 38 short-term water advisories in First Nations communities – not including BC: 3 in Atlantic, 0 in QC, 14 in Ontario, 6 in MB, 8 in SK, 6 in AB.
The short term water advisories lifted this week include:
Kitcisakik (Grand-Lac-Victoria) PWS in Quebec
Kashechewan PWS in Ontario
Fox Lake (Bird) PWS in Manitoba
Birch Narrows 193C PWS; Mosquito No. 109 PWS; in Saskatchewan

There are 40 in 38 communities ADVISORIES August 13, 2026
Recently added long-term advisories:
Cross Lake Band of Indians as of August 13, 2026
The drinking water advisory affecting the Cross Lake Natimek Public Water System in Manitoba became long-term on August 13, 2026, as it has been in effect for more than 12 months. The advisory affects 248 homes and 6 community buildings. The community completed majority of repairs needed to the water treatment system and is currently replacing the fire pumps.
