ALBERTA
ALBERTA Jan 31: The past three years have brought drought and water shortages to much of Alberta. Municipalities have been preparing restriction plans to ensure water is used wisely at a time when the Province is faced with continuing drought conditions/severe water shortages; some communities are banning oil and gas industry from using municipal potable water for fracking or similar purposes.
Earlier this month, the Mountain View Regional Water Services Commission passed a motion advising member communities that “water provided by the commission is to be used for domestic and municipal use. The commission immediately suspends any use of water for oil and gas field operations.”
EDMONTON – UPDATE Jan 30 EPCOR says the non-essential WATER BAN will be in place until Sunday, Feb 4. Repairs are underway, 2 of 4 pumps are back online; the current water supply can not meet the normal water consumption needs for the entire service area. Monday alone, water consumption dropped from 370 million litres per day (MLD) to 340 (MLD). Water Quality remains unaffected by these events.
