THE OCEAN CLEAN-UP TEAM WRAPS UP 2024 WITH COLDPLAY
The Ocean Clean-up celebrates a significant milestone of 20 million kilograms of plastic removed
Following a mission to remove legacy plastic from the oceans, the Ocean Clean-up team provided WATERTODAY with highlights from 2024 and a documentary on Coldplay’s support
In 2024, System 03 removed 140+ tons of plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Through key improvements, it now captures more plastic, uses less fuel, and better protects marine life.
To prevent new plastic from entering the oceans, in 2024 we deployed three river Interceptors in Thailand, Jamaica, and Guatemala. These systems stop plastic in the most polluted rivers, slowing the accumulation in ocean garbage patches worldwide.
Thanks to these efforts, we reached the incredible milestone of 20 million kilograms of waste removed!
Did you know? We’ve caught the most trash in Guatemala, with over 13 million kilograms of waste collected.
In 2024, we partnered with incredible brands to repurpose ocean and river plastic into meaningful products:
- Kia: Created a limited-edition EV3 trunk liner from recycled plastic collected in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
- Coldplay: Produced a special-edition LP of their album "Moon Music" using recycled plastic from Guatemala
