UPDATE
OLALLA Water System – BWN UPDATE issued August 11.
Total coliforms and background bacteria have been periodically detected in samples since August 2024. The most recent BWN (in place since April 24) is the result of an increase in the frequency and quantity being reported.
This System remains under a Boil Water Notice as Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) has yet to determine the source of contamination, despite their continued efforts. Most recent efforts involved:
- The Reservoir was isolated, and the System was ran dynamically for the last few weeks.
- The Reservoir was also emptied and disinfected while offline.
- Further work to improve the water quality is anticipated to take place in the fall.
- Additional measures will be implemented in the coming months to prevent backflow conditions within the System, and the reservoir is expected to be lined for further source protection.
The Olalla System consists of a single deep source groundwater well, an elevated storage reservoir and distribution system. The water supply is typically not treated; the system is monitored for potential contamination and undergoes periodic flushes and temporary chlorination as needed. This system supports approx. 250 service connections.
To follow Olalla Water System Updates.
HAGENSBORG Water System – August 14 BWN has been in effect for over three decades.
This System has faced challenges; in meeting modern water safety standards, addressing pressure issues and water wastage resulting from aging, leaking infrastructure have resulted in a Boil Water Advisory (BWA) that has been in place since December 18, 1992.
Last year, the final design was approved and the contract awarded September 2024.
The project includes new wells, new dedicated supply reservoir, new reservoir dedicated for fire protection, new pumphouse (with disinfection system and system monitoring), emergency backup supply and distribution system improvements which aim to replace sections that are most vulnerable/problematic.
Construction is currently underway and is scheduled for completion Fall of 2025. The Central Coast Regional District (CCRD) took over management of this System December 2020. This system supports approx. 220 service connections.
