Cette substance, issue notamment des eaux usées traitées, est normalement diluée par le débit naturel de la rivière et éliminée efficacement au moment de la désinfection. Or, en raison du faible débit exceptionnel de la rivière, sa concentration était trop élevée pour assurer une désinfection complète. 
--The boil water advisory was in effect from October 6 to 9 due to an issue related to the presence of ammonia nitrogen in the raw water of the Mille Îles River. This substance, which comes mainly from treated wastewater, is normally diluted by the river's natural flow and effectively eliminated during disinfection. However, due to the river's exceptionally low flow, its concentration was too high to ensure complete disinfection.--
